Today was another lazy day in Utila… Utila was made for lazy days. We spent the morning walking around the island gazing longingly at all the beautiful houses that rich Americans have built along the bay. It seems to be a place where people dream to retire. You could build a big house here right next to the ocean for very little. Shaun and I have definitely thought about it… Maybe one day.
The local specialty here is called a balleada, in its basic form it’s just refried beans, cheese and sour cream in a warm homemade tortilla. But there are so many variations. We had a lobster balleada today for a couple of dollars; it was filled with huge chunks of fresh lobster. This is definitely the good life. We could easily stay here for a few months… or years.
This afternoon we went to a little bar called Treetanic. This place was easily the craziest bar I have ever been to. It was like an adult’s playground, bars in the trees, colours and shapes and beauty everywhere. There are bridges and walkways in the trees, little manmade caves, nothing fits in or makes sense… everything there was crazy, beautiful and colourful I just can’t even explain it! I don’t really want to post this without pictures (but we can’t upload pictures at the moment) although I did find their website; http://www.jadeseahorse.com/index.html. I literally felt like I’d fallen asleep and I was walking through some crazy Treetanic dream.
Well, we’re spending tomorrow diving again then we’re off the Columbia on Saturday. I’m sure I’ll have something more to talk about early to mid next week.
Until then, Adios!
